The construction of both CBEX (Cavite-Batangas Expressway) and NBEX (Nasugbu-Bauan Expressway) has been signed and sealed. A partnership between two giants, Manuel “Manny” V. Pangilinan (MVP) of MPTC and Ramon S. Ang (RSA) of San Miguel Corporation was officially inked and with it, the joint project is officially a “go”. What’s in store for us when these two new expressways are completed?
CBEX and NBEX are set to make travel easier and more convenient for motorists
The construction of CBEX was given the green light 25 this past March. Last month, though, it was also announced that industry giants MVP and RSA have agreed 30 to jointly design, construct, and manage new expressways, and this was finalized after both signed a Memorandum of Agreement on August 14, 2023.
The result of the MOA will lead to the creation of the 87.96-kilometer Cavite-Batangas Expressway (CBEX) and the Nasugbu-Bauan Expressway (NBEX). The project aims to connect MPTC’s Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) to Bauan, Batangas and is seen to result in easier and more convenient travel for motorists in the South.
“Our shared commitment to nation-building has led us to this historic collaboration. Together, we aim to deliver world-class road networks that will serve as arteries of progress, growth, and development for our country and the Filipino people. This collaboration stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we are united in purpose,” said Ramon S. Ang, SMC President and CEO.
“Together with SMC, we envisage a future where our CBEX and NBEX can help pave the way for connectivity and economic growth in the CALABARZON region. We look forward to leveraging on our respective strengths for the realization of this vital infrastructure project,” added Manuel V. Pangilinan, MPTC Chairman.
The 88-kilometer-long toll road projects will encompass two vital expressways: first is the 27.06-kilometer CBEX which will establish a crucial link connecting CALAX’s Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to Nasugbu, Batangas, and the 60.90-kilometer NBEX which will provide connectivity from Nasugbu to Bauan, Batangas. Groundbreaking for both upcoming expressways is scheduled sometime in 2024 and both are expected to be completed and opened to the public in 2027.
The route will traverse the townships of Silang, Amadeo, Tagaytay, Indang, Mendez, and Alfonso in Cavite before crossing into Nasugbu and finally reaching Bauan, Batangas.
As we well know, both MPTC and SMC hold concessions and operate expressways under their wing. MPTC 21 currently holds the concession for several vital expressways, including the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), its C5 Link Segment, the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the NLEX Connector Road, CALAX, and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu. SMC, on the other hand, holds the concession for the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), Star Tollway, Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), and the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX).
This joint venture will see how two giants can make transportation, mobility, and travels better, and we’re sure everyone will look forward to its completion and its success.
Hopefully these two expressways will consider public transportation terminals/stops for (BUS, PUVS, ETC.) and should not only be for private vehicles.
Nice and very good project, business na walang Lugi, walang kakompetensiya.Nice in the sense na it will help the unemployed to be employed as tellers or other positions, not unless it will computerized the system.
MCX is Ayala, recently bought by Villar.
