Toyota Motor Philippines recalls Innova, Fortuner, Hilux

As part of Toyota Motor Corp’s recall of 6.39 million vehicles worldwide, Toyota Motor Philippines is recalling Innova, Fortuner, and Hilux units sold in the country from November 2004 to June 2010.

The recall in the Philippines has something to do with faulty spiral cable retainers. “Due to the shape and location of the spiral cable retainers, this may cause some connectivity loss related to the airbag system. In such case, the driver-side airbag may not deploy in the event of a crash. There are, however, no incidents reported related to this condition.”

To address the problem, Toyota Motor Philippines launched its “Special Service Campaign” to have the faulty parts replaced free of charge. Owners will also be notified so they can have an appointment set with their respective dealerships.

“In line with Toyota’s firm commitment on product safety and quality, Toyota Motor Philippines will issue a Special Service Campaign (SSC) on the affected models. We value our customers’ safety, thus our company decided to hold such campaign to ease their concerns on this issue.” TMP First Vice President for Corporate Affairs, Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, said in a statement.

Owners of affected units are also advised to get in touch with the Toyota Customer Assistance Center at (02) 819-2912 or visit their Toyota dealership.

  1. toyota seems to be having numerous recalls now….mejo alarming, mukhang napapabayaan na ng kaunti ung quality control.quite disappointing lng kahit na toyota fan ako, pero on the other hand mas ok parin to na inadmit nila na may defect kahit n wala pang nangyayareng aksidente na di nagdeploy ung airbag at 2004 p ung simula ng mga apektado ng recall hahaha good job toyota =)

  2. Well, at least they were honest enough to admit that they made a mistake. Sana hindi lang hassle magpapalit ng parts kapag affected and unit na nabili mo.

  3. Similar to the General Motors incident in the US where it took them almost a decade to find a simple problem that went out of hand in an instant!

  4. Wow, affected units since 2004. Took them almost 9.5 years to realize this.
