In a report by PhilStar, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced that bus drivers and conductors will receive a fixed salary starting Saturday. The salary will not be lower than the minimum wage in their respective regions and are entitled to night shift differential, service incentive leave, 13th-month pay, holiday, overtime, and premium pays. Drivers should also receive performance incentives based on revenue, ridership, safety, specific conditions of routes and other relevant parameters.

The new compensation scheme is expected to discourage drivers from lingering for a long time in various stops and from driving recklessly just to get more passengers.

The LTFRB will revoke or cancel the franchise of bus companies who do not comply with the wage order.

  1. How can they monitor each driver and/or conductors? It’s good knowing that they have a fix salary. This is a nice thinking that they do not have to race the clock in order to have more income at the end of the day. This could also be the solution for a part of the traffic wherein they’d have to abruptly stop at specific places where commuters stay and fill up the bus till it’s jam packed.

If bus companies can monitor this then us commuters will have a more relaxing ride rather than having to squeeze our way in and out of the bus. They won’t be clogging the streets more often. Hope they can implement this soon to jeepney drivers.

    • I hope they can follow a certain schedule like in other countries. So that every few mins you’re guaranteed that a bus number XXX is coming. So the busses are continuously moving
