MMDA road ban on e-bikes, e-trikes, light electric vehicles, and others starts today, April 15, 2024
In case you missed it, the MMDA would like to remind all of us that the ban that covers e-bikes, e-trikes, light electric vehicles, tricycles, push carts, pedicabs, and “kuligligs” begins implementation today, April 15, 2024. All of the vehicles mentioned above will no longer be allowed along national roads, circumferential roads, radial roads, and all other areas that are within the jurisdiction of the Metro Manila Development Authority.

Below you will see a list of all roadways that this new MMDA regulation covers. According to MMDA Acting Chairman Don Artes, those found violating it will be slapped with a PHP 2,500. On the same note, if the vehicle in question is not registered or if the driver is unable to present a valid Driver’s License, the vehicle will be confiscated and impounded.

Such vehicles that will have to go through an intersecting road to cross to the other side are exempted. Tricycles are likewise permitted along the above-mentioned roads as long as they do not cover a distance of more than 500 meters before making or after coming from a u-turn to enter the opposite lane. That said, they must turn into their street of destination within the said distance.
As for light electric vehicles, those that fall under categories recognized by RA 11697 or the Electric Vehicle Industry Act are also exempted and are allowed to traverse along the roads indicated above.

A lot of talks have been aired regarding this decision of the Metro Manila Development Authority. There’s an obvious split between those who are for and against it, but as it stands, it is already a “law” that everyone should observe and respect. Until it is abolished or amended, and if you are an owner of any of the vehicle types that the MMDA has deemed illegal to use on the roads listed above, it’s best that you not tempt fate, yes?
