One of the most important factors to car buyers nowadays is safety. In recent years more and more people have been conscious about how much safer vehicles have become over time. As such, brands have been heavily advocating new and cutting-edge safety features, with companies from China being somewhat at the forefront, however, it seems the MG GT slipped through the cracks.
MG GT 0 stars at ANCAP testing
During a recent test by the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), the new sporty sedan released in PH this past year seemingly failed the test by getting a total of 0 stars.
Of course, safety tests aren’t subjective ones and are measured and monitored to ensure every car that goes through the test either passes or fails. In this case, the GT sedan got a 0 mainly because it dropped the ball in terms of Adult Occupancy Protection (AOP). Out of the top score of 40, the GT only got 15.09, It scored zero in Frontal Offset, Full Width, and Far-Side Impact crash tests. It also scored zero in front of passenger Whiplash Protection.
The car tested during the assessment was an MG GT Sedan that is sold in Australia came fitted with a full set of airbags, but its seatbelts had no emergency pre-tensioners.
After the test, ANCAP was quoted as saying that despite the GT only being released this year, its safety systems and capabilities are some generations behind other new cars on sale today.
