The updated S90 is part of Volvo’s broader move toward electrification. It features a refreshed exterior with a more streamlined silhouette, redesigned front and rear ends, and a new grille. The signature “Thor’s Hammer” headlights now include slimmer Matrix LED technology for improved visibility. New taillights and a sculpted bonnet complete the revised design. Two new exterior colours, Aurora Silver and Mulberry Red, are also being introduced, alongside new diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Inside, the cabin incorporates upgraded materials and Volvo’s latest infotainment system. A new 11.2-inch free-standing centre display offers faster, more responsive interaction. Over-the-air software updates are now supported, allowing continuous improvements after purchase.

The S90 will be offered as both a plug-in hybrid and a mild hybrid. Under WLTP testing, the plug-in hybrid version provides up to 80 kilometres of electric-only driving on a single charge, potentially allowing for emissions-free commuting. Volvo reports that almost half the distance driven in its latest plug-in hybrids is covered using electric power alone. The mild hybrid variant features a front-wheel-drive turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, combining solid performance with high efficiency.

“The S90 is a key part of our product portfolio for the coming years in some of our Asian markets,” said Erik Severinson, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Volvo Cars. “Together with the new fully electric ES90, the new S90 ensures we have a complete and attractive offering for customers who value safety and want to drive a large, sleek Volvo sedan.”

In terms of safety, the new S90 includes an advanced safety cage and active driver assistance systems. The updated Pilot Assist feature offers adaptive cruise control, automatic braking in stop-and-go traffic, and steering support to help keep the vehicle centred in its lane.

The updated Volvo S90 will be available to order in China starting this summer, with availability in other markets to follow. The S90 actually did very well in the Philippines with competitive pricing some time back, so it may be a great time for Volvo Philippines to bring this back.
