In Japan, Subaru is set to introduce a new iteration of the STI-branded WRX from the current generation. Technically designated as the STI Sport, this model can be likened to other brands’ kitted-out versions of regular cars, such as the GR Sport from Toyota, the S-Line from Audi, and the M-Sport from BMW. Its full nomenclature is the WRX S4 STI Sport, and an even more potent variant is on the horizon. Prior to its global debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024, the high-performance sedan is being promoted as an “STI complete car,” suggesting a comprehensive array of enhancements from Subaru Tecnica International.
The initial glimpse from the teaser reveals the upcoming version featuring a distinct trunk lid spoiler. Observers also note the presence of new wheels adorned with STI center caps, coupled with what seems to be a lowered suspension. Although currently designated as a prototype, plans are in place for a limited production run.
The Tokyo Auto Salon 2024 is poised to showcase this highly anticipated model alongside another enticing offering that unfortunately won’t make it to the Philippines: a BRZ STI Sport embellished with additional STI components, including a carbon rear spoiler. Furthermore, even the wagon-based Levorg is receiving the STI Sport treatment in Japan, featuring an aerodynamic body kit.
Scheduled to unfold between January 12-14, TAS 2024 will spotlight these enhanced road cars and feature a lineup of Subaru race cars. Among them are the WRX NBR Challenge (2024 spec), BRZ GT300 (2023 spec), and Team SDA Engineering’s BRZ CNF Concept, modified to operate on carbon-neutral fuel. Subaru aims to impact the event significantly, showcasing its commitment to performance and innovation in the automotive realm.
