After the long delay, residents of southern Metro Manila and Bacoor, Cavite can finally look forward to the extension of the country’s oldest LRT system.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project took place today, May 4th. The 11.7km extension will extend the operations of Line 1 from Baclaran in Parañaque, passing by Las Piñas, and all the way to Niog, Bacoor City in the province of Cavite.
New stations to be built are Aseana, MIA, Asiaworld, Ninoy Aquino, and Dr Santos in Parañaque City; Las Piñas and Zapote in Las Piñas City; and Niog station in Bacoor, Cavite.
With a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour (km/h) and a commercial speed of 60 km/h, Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) promises a 25-minute ride from Bacoor to Makati City.
The project is scheduled to be finished by 2021.
