PNR Clark, Calamba trains to arrive in December 2021

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has revealed the arrival of the trains for the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project by December 2021. The NSCR is a joint project of the DOTr and the Philippine National Railways (PNR).

Along with the expected arrival of PNR Clark and Calamba trains by December is the arrival of the training simulator for the PNR Clark Phase 1 project dated between September and October of 2021, according to Secretary Art Tugade.

“’Yung mga tren na gagamitin sa proyektong ito ay darating na sa December. Mayroon tayong lugar na tinatayo ng DOTr na paglalagyan ng simulator. Ito ang gagamitin para sa training ng mga taong magpapatakbo at gagabay sa proyektong ito. Handa na ‘hong dumating ang mga simulator ng September o October,” Tugade said of the PNR NSCR Project.

The PNR Clark Phase 1 project did not take off until the Duterte administration took over, according to DOTr. At present, the construction of the rail is at 45%. It was conceptualized in 1993 and had funds from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The PNR Clark Phase 1 Project is a 38-kilometer railway that runs from Tutuban Station in Manila through Caloocan, Valenzuela, and the municipalities of Meycuayan, Marilao, Bocaue, Balagtas, Guiguinto and ends at Malolos, Bulacan. On the other hand is the PNR Clark Phase 2, is a 54-kilometer rail line connecting Malolos, Bulacan, and Clark, Pampanga. Its progress is at 28% and will feature an Airport Express. Finally, completing the PNR NSCR Project is the PNR Clark Phase 3 Manila – Calamba section.

The overall project covers 147 kilometers that traverses from Clark, Pampanga (Region 3) to Calamba, Laguna (Region 4)—a single, seamless railway system composed of three segments.
