As the agency has committed, the LTO is fast-tracking the production of license plates for both motor vehicles and motorcycles. During a recent inspection of the plate-making facilities, agency Chief Vigor Mendoza II was quoted as saying something rather… unprecedented. His statement had something to do with how many days brand-new vehicle buyers could expect their plates to be available, and it’s even more surprising as his quote was posted by the Land Transportation Office itself.
LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza makes a bold statement on release of license plates
All efforts to speed up the production of license plates are being exerted by the LTO to finally address its backlog. That said, the plate-making facility of the agency is operating in full swing “so that the issue of having backlogs will never happen again”. Such is the commitment of Mendoza to ensuring the fast manufacturing and distribution of plates to drivers and motorists.
“They started with five equipment, I think by now there are eight machines working, they will reach 32,000 plates production a day. We will announce very soon, within the week upon DOTr approval na kaya na nating tugunan [that we can address (the backlog)],” Mendoza said.
More importantly, he was also quoted as saying, “Pag bumili ka ng kotse ngayon, in 10 days nandiyan na ‘yung plaka mo, ‘pag bumili ka ng motorsiklo ngayon, nandiyan na kaagad ‘yung plaka mo [If you buy a car now, your plates will already be there in 10 days. If you buy a motorcycle, your plate will be there right away].”
Following his bold statement, could it be true and is it actually doable that motorists and drivers will no longer have to wait for months or worse, years, to get their license plates?
Addressing the license plate backlog and the shortage of plastic Driver’s License cards were among the problems that immediately hounded Chief Mendoza as soon as he took office, and we can say – and be thankful – that he is doing what he can to stay on top of them. If he has enough confidence to say such things, perhaps there are more things happening than meets the eye.
Of course, he and the LTO will have to forgive the majority for being very skeptical of his statement. This said majority have waited and are still waiting for their license plates for a long time after all. But if the LTO does do good on the Chief’s word(s), then that’s something to be most thankful for, and again, very surprised about.
Let’s hope it’s a starting step in the right direction.
Puro press release lang po hindi naman nasusunod. 2024 na 3. Weeks na wala. oR CR mas lalong walang car plate.
