While not too many exist, there are those who prefer big SUVs to trek the beaten path. The Nissan Patrol Warrior has just been unveiled by Australian tuning shop Premcar, and with it, they want to give “a new voice for an iconic vehicle”. Premcar describes the off-road capabilities of this beast of a Patrol as “legendary” so let’s see what’s behind the hype.
In case their name isn’t familiar, Premcar is responsible for the like-named Nissan pickup, the Navara Warrior. Specializing in trucks built for off-roading, the Patrol gets its own Premcar treatment, and boy, does it look good. But a lot more went into the Patrol Warrior aside from the aesthetic add-ons.
A quick glance will show that it is much taller, longer, and wider than your regular Patrol. The track is 40mm wider and the new-design bumper and fender flares give off a very aggressive look. You’ll also find a red, powder-coated skid or bash plate under the front bumper, perfect for those odd-angle entries and exits.
With an added 50mm of ground clearance, the Patrol Warrior is ready for whatever terrain you put it in. Compared to the non-Premcar Patrol, this truck has about 12 inches worth of distance between the axles and the surface. The suspension has likewise been upgraded to include reengineered Hydraulic Body Motion Control and new front and rear springs. These enable what Premcar describes as “fantastic” wheel articulation off-road, all while minimizing pitch and roll on smooth roads.
The Patrol Warrior sits on special 18″ alloy wheels specifically made for it, and are wrapped in chunky 34.3″ Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires.
Inside, the Patrol Warrior went with a black color scheme that features Alcantara door and dashboard trim pieces, complete with WARRIOR branding. Clear-coated high-gloss black trim also makes its way into the cabin, making for an overall style and look that matches performance. Seeing as the Warrior has retained the pre-updated dashboard, you won’t find a dual-screen layout on the center stack.
Powering the Patrol Warrior is a naturally aspirated 5.6-liter V8 engine that makes 400 HP and 560 Nm of torque. Yes, it’s not a boosted motor, but it can still boast of being able to tow up to 3,500 kg with its two recovery points/tow mounts. As a bit of a novelty, it also features dual side-exit exhaust outlets with a “best of both worlds” functionality. That means the Patrol Warrior’s engine noise is kept to a minimum when you want refinement, but gives off a pretty hefty roar when you want to hear the full glory of its 400 V8 horses.
Sadly, the Patrol Warrior likely won’t make it to the Philippines, ever. It’s a collaboration directly between Nissan Australia and Premcar so that alone douses any hopes of it being built for export. But who knows? If someone is enterprising enough, maybe he or she can get a hold of the parts and slap them onto a personally-owned PH-spec Patrol. We’ll never know until someone actually does. We’re hoping, though. That would be an absolutely badass sight.
