Mitsubishi Strada Phantom Plus looks absolutely off-road ready with this kit

Every manufacturer with a 4×4 pickup gives it some optional or already-installed offroad package(s) straight out of the factory. Mitsubishi didn’t want to fall behind and gave their pickup one such kit. Meet the Strada Phantom Plus Edition. Released in Malaysia, this truck looks ready to take to the beaten path and look good while doing it.

We have to admit that of all the pickups available in the PH market, the Strada and its design is one of if not the most… dated. Mitsubishi knows this for sure, and this update might make it attractive still; at least until the next generation is released. Released in Malaysia (where the Strada is named Triton), the Phantom Plus Edition gets a pretty handsome off-road package.

You’ll find that the both front and rear bumpers get kitted out with red accent pieces. Fender flares have also been fitted on and the door, as well as a tailgate molding, serve to make the Strada Phantom Plus look much wider. There’s also a sports bar along the sides and the front portion of the bed; there is no mention of whether it can serve any function like, say, a rollbar, would, though. The red accents continue to the roof rails, too. The roof being mentioned, LED lighting units have also been fitted on top. A set of 18″ gloss black alloy wheels and decals complete the exterior.

The Strada Phantom Plus got some added goodies inside, too. Black leatherette is the upholstery of choice, and it comes with red contrast stitching. The carpet mats also get the red stitching just to remind you that this isn’t an ordinary variant. “Phantom Plus” has also been stitched into the front seats’ headrest. The same branding and Triton marks make their way to the mats and the illuminated door sills as well.

Oh, there’s an added bonus. The Strada Phantom Plus also comes equipped with a Driving Video Recorder from the showroom as standard!

Power is still provided by a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine that pumps out 181 PS and 430 Nm of torque while having Variable Valve Timing Technology. It also still comes with Easy Select 4WD so yes, this is not a faux-by-4, it’s the real deal. It only comes in one color: Jet Black Mica.

The prices mentioned were of course in Malaysian Ringgit, and very roughly converted, it will come up to an equivalent of PHP 1.765M. But take that price with a grain of salt, please.

If Mitsubishi PH does decide to bring the Strada Phantom Plus here, will it be a worthy competitor to, say, the Hilux Conquest or even the all-new Ranger? Every pickup has its fan base, so that’s going to be up for a good debate. But again, that all depends if it will even see the light of day in the Philippines.

  1. Will it be available in PH market? As I heard that overhead lamps aren’t allowed here. Hope it will be allowed here so I can purchase this type..
