Last March, The Department of Transportation together with President Rodrigo Duterte announced that the newly overhauled MRT-3 would be offering free rides from March 28-April 30, 2022.
Since then, it was reported on the MRT-3 Facebook page that nearly 8.5 Million (8,472,637) passengers have availed of the free ride offer. According to the same Facebook post, the MRT-3 line was able to service a daily average of 309,013 passengers. Which is 27.8% higher than the average number of (weekday) passengers before the program kicked off.
The highest ridership figure recorded in a single day (from March 28-April 30) was on April 8, on that day the MRT-3 tallied 335,993 passengers.
The MRT-3 also announced that the free ride program will continue until May 30, 2022. It will be available from 4:40 a.m. to 10:10 p.m.
