Volkswagen ID.7 takes the term ‘long range’ seriously

We all know that the country is yet to fully embrace and build up a fully EV-friendly community as of now. Charging stations are still few and far in between, Volkswagen though has just revealed an EV just could quell any ‘range anxiety’ concerns.

Feast your eyes on the VW ID.7, the brand’s first global midsize EV that is specific for comfort and battery range. There are two versions of the ID.7 Pro and Pro S (taking pages out of cellphone nomenclature), the Pro has an 82 kWh battery that provides up to 615 kilometers of range in the WLTP cycle. It supports 170 kW DC charging to quickly replenish the juice consumed by its 282 horsepower electric motor.

The Pro S meanwhile has better range due to the bigger 91 kWh battery of the Pro S gives the ID.7 up to 700 km of driving distance on a single charge. It also has a greater DC charging capacity of 200 kW. Further highlighting its long-range philosophy, the body of the ID.7’s body was designed to minimize as much drag as possible.

Simplistic is the word that comes to mind upon viewing the Volkswagen ID.7’s interior, it has a small instrument cluster but the 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system dominates the space on the dashboard. There is however an augmented reality heads-up display that showcases vital vehicle information, while most of the controls can be found on the steering wheel.

The Volkswagen ID.7 will be built in Germany and is slated to begin production sometime in the second half of 2023, no prices have been announced just yet.

With local VW sales not necessarily hitting targets it would make sense for Volkswagen Philippines to bring in its EV offerings to jumpstart the brand before it’s too late, and the ID.7 could be a good jumping point.
