In a bid to answer the woes of commuters, the LTFRB opened 7,870 new TNVS slots for Grab at the end of last month. With easing quarantine restrictions, the demand for available means of transportation quickly became a concern. The good news is that yesterday, and as of today, they have reopened registration for the close to 8,000 slots on the LTFRB portal.

TNVS slots available for registration with LTFRB
It was through Board Resolution No. 065 s. 2022 that the 7,870 registration slots were given to the LTFRB. Now, these slots are not actually limited just to Grab. For as long as the vehicle to be registered belongs to an accredited Transport Network Company (TNC) – a current list of all recognized TNCs can be found here – it can be given a slot if it meets all requirements and criteria.
Of the total number of opened slots, 7,000 slots are allocated for registrants in NCR, 220 for those in Region 3, 500 in Region 5, and 150 in Region 6.
What does this reopening of registration mean, though? It’s been half a month since it was first announced, but it seems that all the slots haven’t been filled yet. As it stands, do we have a conundrum regarding supply and demand? There was a great demand for TNVS options, but a low supply of vehicles plying the road. Now that a great supply of slots is open to register more TNVS vehicles, it also seems that there may be a low supply of actual vehicles to be registered. Ah, a conundrum, indeed.
Either way, we can see this as a glimmer of hope for commuters who prefer the TNVS route to traditional commuting. We can only hope that these slots are taken so as to put more options on the road for travelers. And while we’re at it, let’s hope that the cars that will be registered are actually road-worthy, yes?
