San Miguel Corporation plans to propose 10-lane elevated tollway on EDSA

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has stated that it plans to send in a proposal to build an elevated tollway on EDSA.

According to a report by CNN, SMC Chairman and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Ang stated that the elevated tollway could be built in 24 to 30 months. It will begin in Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City and end at either Samson Road in Caloocan or EDSA-Balintawak. He added that the tollway could be similar to that in Japan, stating that it could be built with steel but it would be more expensive. He had also asked the media to ” imagine adding 10 lanes on EDSA without traffic?”  

For toll rates, Ramon Ang stated that it could be between PHP 150USD 3INR 217EUR 2CNY 19 to 200. The proposal is set to be submitted to the Department of Transportation in the coming weeks.

  2. Or why not have the government build the elevated tollway and make it free for the public? Sa singapore, gobyerno ang nagpapaproject para walang private company na manamantala kumita. We have tax, i don’t believe Philippines tax collection is poor, nasa pinaglalagyan lang ng pera yan. Spend the levy, nagrereplenish din naman kayo ng budget every year.

    • Better to be a little idealistic kesa katulad mo na negative kaagad nasa utak. Kaya di umuunlad ang Pinas dahil ang una mong iniisip e babagsak. Nakita mo yung ginawa ni Isko sa manila? Pwedeng magbago, cooperation from everybody lang at tamang lider ang iboto. Gumalaw ka din para may magawa ka sa bayan mo.

  4. Why not consider C5 /. CP Garcia ? Trucks can occupy the lower lanes and lighter vehicles in the elevated lanes. Pylons can be built in the center islands vs. EDSA where perhaps the posts may intrude the outer lanes. Maybe lesser traffic interruptions compared to EDSA and and less right of way issues. Just a thought.

Open up YouTube as look at the pictures of San Francisco’s elevated superhighway after an earthquake. It pancaked! A 1.25-mile segment of the two-level Cypress Street Viaduct along the Nimitz Freeway (Interstate 880), just south of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, collapsed during the quake, resulting in 42 fatalities when the upper level of the road crashed onto the cars on the lower level.

    Considering the continual gridlock in Manila an elevated highway collapse would kill hundreds and negatively impact the lives of thousands for many years that follow such an event.

    So let’s stop talking about stacking highways and start talking about safe, efficient and economical public transportation. One only needs to ride the MRT’s in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Taipei to understand how a country can efficiently move people and reduce traffic gridlock.

    In the short term, set the vehicle license fee at 1 million pesos. There are far too many people on the highways who really can’t afford to own a car, truck, SUV or motorcycle. Raising the license fee will thin out the herd. Visit the many repossession lots around the NCR and you will learn the truth about the many who were given loans that never had the means to fulfill their financial obligations. And yes, the lending institutions are guilty for making those loans and they should be held accountable.

    Driving is not a right…it is a privilege.

    What we need is better mass transportation.

    Have wages in other major cities in the Philippines be as competitive as Metro Manila. All major cities in Visayas and Mindanao. Don’t let progress stop in M. Manila where it is already more than congested. When the government has a plan to focus on other cities, employment and civilization will follow through.
