About a week ago, we saw the teaser for the all-new Toyota Innova. Fast forward to today and yet another teaser has been released, but this time it’s more “electrifying”. What you see in the photo above is the Toyota Innova Hybrid. Yes, it’s all but confirmed given this image, but there is a bigger question that remains.
Will the Toyota Innova Hybrid make its way to the Philippines?
The first teaser posted by Toyota Indonesia on both its website and Facebook page got everyone pretty excited. The Innova has long been due for an all-new release, and news of an upcoming model was very much welcomed by all. Apart from the question regarding its name – Hycross – which pokes at the idea of it being a hybrid and a “crossover” model, the possibility of an electric powertrain was open for guesses.
Until a few days ago.
The picture that you see right above this text is the first of what’s now been two teasers. Previously it was just a peek at the Innova’s front quarter. Further up, you’ll see the full photo of the now-confirmed Innova Hybrid. If the “Hybrid” badge on the fender isn’t enough of a giveaway, then the stylized blue electrical lines and the phrase “The New Energy Is Coming” should do the trick.
Even better, the caption on the Facebook post itself reads “The new energy that comes with better power is on the way to energize you! #ToyotaIndonesia“. But okay, before we get too excited, let’s look back at a few more details and possibilities with the new Innova Hybrid.
Again we’re going back to the first glimpse of an electrified Innova using the photo you see above. Again, this was supposed to be a pure EV, but with an Innova Hybrid, that may make for a more feasible and practical choice for its fans.
There is no finality as to this being a lone or one-of-many-other variant, of course. But the rumor mills have heard of the possibility of the end of diesel-powered Innovas. That said, this could usher in a slew of 2.0-liter gasoline engines under the hood. Whether that will be the base for the Innova Hybrid power plant, we cannot say as Toyota has been very mum about any other details.
Regardless, we’re sure that it’s still going to be a very exciting model. More than it has ever been since it was first introduced in the Philippines. Again, Toyota is proving that it’s very serious with its Environmental Challenge 2050 that will see nothing but electrified vehicles in its lineup, and the confirmation of the Toyota Innova Hybrid is testament enough to that.
Will it make its way here? We certainly hope so. The Innova has always been a well-loved and high-selling model in the country, and we’re sure Toyota knows well enough to miss out on a market such as ours.
