Perhaps the biggest giveaway with the lone teaser of the 2024 Subaru Impreza was that it will be a hatchback. For those clamoring for a sedan, you can hope that it will eventually be made, but for now, what we have is an all-new hatchback model. Fresh from its unveiling at the LA Auto Show, here’s what we have and know about the new model.

The 6th generation Impreza sees the return of a 5-door hatchback. With it comes an all-new design, improved performance, enhanced safety features, and a lot of updated technology. The 3 available variants are Base, Sport, and RS.

All three will ride on the Subaru Global Platform which has been enhanced with 10% more torsional rigidity. Better body rigidity and lighter overall weight are made possible by a full inner frame construction and additional structural adhesive. As a whole, the Impreza will give an improved dynamic performance, a smoother ride, and a quieter cabin.

As far as the exterior goes, all three variants will largely look the same, save for the unique exterior elements such as badges and blacked-out trim pieces and exclusive 18″ alloy wheels on the RS. The Base and Sport variants get 16″ wheels instead. On the inside, the RS gets black and red upholstery, a lot of faux carbon and gunmetal finishes, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and a premium 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

Interior tech is headlined by the 11.6-inch multimedia plus system that comes with Subaru Starlink – the first time in an Impreza – that includes Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto connectivity as well. The latest generation of EyeSight Driver Assist Technology also comes standard on the 2024 Impreza and it features a slew of safety features and operates smoother and faster under a greater range of conditions.

Under the hood, there will be another difference between variants. The Base and Sport will have a 2.0-liter Boxer engine that can put out 152 HP and 197 Nm of torque. For those who opt for the RS, what they get is a 2.5-liter Boxer that is good for 182 HP and 241 Nm of pull. There will be (or are no) manual transmissions being offered with the 2024 Impreza, and both engine options are mated to a Lineartronic CVT, and all still feature Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

The 2024 Subaru Impreza is (only) currently available in the US market and is scheduled to hit dealerships early next year. Other countries and markets are expected to follow soon after, and it does make us wonder if we will get it in the PH, too.

There were a lot of mixed reactions the first time an Impreza hatchback was introduced here. The newer generation of fans quickly took to it, while the older fans thought it was sacrilege. Regardless, we cannot deny that Impreza hatchbacks sold well. If this will be another opportunity for the hatch to make a (re)entry into the market, then why not? It’s still a badass-looking car, and it is after all a Subaru. There will always be fans of the brand who will be quick to snatch this model up like they always do.
