Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has announced its electric scooter with a removable battery design for short-distance urban mobility and carbon neutrality, the Yamaha NEO.
The Yamaha NEO is a 2.5 kW electric scooter with a simple yet sporty look. It features the latest generation Yamaha Integrated Power Unit (YIPU) that features an air-cooled brushless electric motor located inside the rear wheel hub, eliminating the need for gears or belts for smooth and quiet operation (55dB from 7 meters).
It is powered by a single high-density 50.4V/19.2Ah lithium-ion battery weighing 8kg. It has a range of 37 km, which can be extended by purchasing an optional second battery, and boasts an efficiency of 1000 cycles / 10,000km. Charging can be done while the battery is fitted in the scooter or when removed.
Other features include selectable ride modes — STD (highest power output) and ECO (up to 38.5km), LCD instruments, connectivity with the Yamaha MyRide app to display scooter information, Smart Key keyless system, helmet under-seat storage (27 liters), and Full LED lighting.
The Yamaha NEO will arrive in Europe this month at a price of EUR 2,999.
