The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has just announced that the actual construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension has started.
A groundbreaking ceremony to start the pre-construction activities of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension was held last May 2017. One of the problems that DOTr and the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) during the pre-construction phase was the Right of Way Acquisition (ROWA). The ROWA for this project first began in 2007 but by 2016, 0% of it was still not certified “Free and Clear”. It wasn’t until recently that 90% of the ROWA was certified as “Free and Clear”.
During the pre-construction phase, the DOTr stated that apart from the ROWA, they have completed the relocation of the informal settler families, utilities, and the clearing of the construction yard. Aside from that, 120 Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) are on-track to be sent during the partial operations of the line in around the 4th quarter of 2021.
DOTr has stated that the first five stations will be operational in about two years.
