Motorcycles 125cc and above may use CCLEX by July, 2022

The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is set to be inaugurated and opened on April 27, 2022. With less than a week to go, motorists are very excited to start using the 8.9-kilometer-long expressway. As with all expressways in the Philippines, there are some rules that disallow our two-wheeled compatriots. There’s some good news for them, though.

According to the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the minimum displacement for motorcycles that wish to use the cable bridge is 125cc. That, and they can start doing so by July this year. If your bike meets that minimum or has more, you can travel with ease and peace of mind without having to worry about being flagged to the side.

Speaking of “the side”, July is also the target month when pedestrian sidewalk and bicycle lanes will have been completed along the length of CCLEX. With an expected daily vehicular volume of 50,000, developer Cebu Link Joint Venture (CLJV), is keen on making the bridge expressway that connects Cebu City and the island of Mactan safe and friendly for all modes of transportation and travel. Whether on wheels or on foot, there’s enough space for everyone to share. The mandated speed limit along its entire length is a maximum of 80 kilometers per hour.

Of course, the use of CCLEX has accompanying toll fees that can be paid using cash when it opens. MPTC is targeting June 2022 as the start of electronic toll collection, though, so by then, motorists must have the appropriate RFID tags installed on their vehicles to enter.

The inauguration date coincides with the 501st anniversary of Kadaugan sa Mactan. It commemorates the victory of Lapu-Lapu and his Mactan warriors’ victory against Ferdinand Magellan and his army.

“We are happy and honored to have come to this point, opening the biggest infrastructure project in this part of the country. … we mark a different milestone, a modern victory not of arms but of engineering and construction that gave us such a beautiful structure that has now become an icon of Cebu.” – Manuel V. Pangilinan, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) Chairman

It’s a very exciting time to be alive. Projects such as this, projects that always give more options and convenience for travel for everyone are the breath of fresh air that everyone needs. So just sit back and relax. In just a few more days, we’ll have another IG-worthy venue where we can shoot from. Just don’t be a kamote and stop whenever you want to, okay?
