Phase 1 of LRT-1 Cavite Extension now well on track for Q4 2024 opening

Construction and testing of trains for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension have been well underway, and just 5 months since the last update, both the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMT) have announced that the segment is all set for operation within the last quarter of 2024. That said, the line will add 6.2 kilometers, improving connectivity in southern Metro Manila.

The LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project spans a length of 11.7 kilometers with 8 new stations (in total) in between is a joint venture of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), and the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC).

“The LRT-1 Cavite project will contribute to easing the traffic. With the operations of the project, maraming makaka-connect sa PITX, I think, that will help many passengers, as well as to the airport. With this, it will really improve accessibility and comfort to the riding public,” said Secretary Jaime J. Bautista during his inspection of the Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque.

As it stands, Phase 1 is already 98.2 % complete and partial operations will begin as scheduled before year’s end.

Five (5) new stations added to LRT-1 given the completion of the Cavite Extension Phase 1, and they are Redemptorist Station, MIA Station, Asia World Station, Ninoy Aquino Station, and Dr. Santos Stations.

As for fare and ticket prices, Transportation Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino said they would be “affordable for passengers”. How affordable?

“Currently, we will be applying the same fare which is PHP 13.29 boarding fare and for distance fare, kumbaga bawat kilometro na malalakbay, 1.21 centavos,” Aquino explained. “That’s the same for LRT lines 1 and 2,” she likewise added.

For more context, and a better idea, the fare from Baclaran Station to Dr. Santos Station will be PHP 25, while the ticket price from FPJ Station to Dr. Santos Station will be PHP 45.

Once completed, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project – an 11.7-kilometer rail extension – will reduce travel time from Baclaran in Paranaque to Bacoor, Cavite to 25 minutes and is likewise expected to increase LRT-1‘s ridership from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers.
