DILG proposes to remove bus lanes and charge private motorists for EDSA usage

The Department of Interior Local Government (DILG) has gone on to make statements about some things they are planning for the mass transportation and road congestion, particularly along EDSA.

DILG EDSA Propositions

During a meeting for the Comprehensive Traffic Management Plan for Metro Manila and nearby provinces, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said that one of the possible new proposals for EDSA would be to remove the exclusive bus lanes. His reason for the possible removal is the increase in the MRT’s capacity, specifically from 300,000 to 800,000 this year due to an increase in train wagons.

The second proposition involves the consolidation of the motorcycle lane and bike lane into one singular two-wheel lane, according to Secretary Remulla 70% of motorcycle accidents are due to them avoiding traffic congestion.

Last but certainly, the most controversial proposition is a congestion charge fee that will be charged to private motorists who plan to use EDSA. This is a measure that, according to the DILG Secretary, will encourage motorists to try public transportation. He went on further to reiterate that this measure will only be implemented once the entire Metro Manila mass transportation system is reliable, efficient, and comfortable.
