The Delica is a pretty well-loved model from Mitsubishi. And it’s also pretty aged. A decade and a half of existence and it’s ready for a proper refresh – AKA, get an all-new model – and the brand might’ve put up a teaser to start getting its fans’ hopes up. While no specific mention of the model was made, we can make out a very familiar silhouette, and there may be a chance that it could be what fans have been waiting for.
Are we looking at the next-generation Mitsubishi Delica?
Whether already launched or still to launch, there’s no shortage of new models from Mitsubishi as of late. The Japan Mobility Show 2023, formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show, has always been a hotbed for previews and launches of models from different manufacturers. That said, Mitsubishi’s teaser comes at an opportune time.
As we said, we can’t say with any finality that the impression of the vehicle that you see in the photo above is indeed the Delica, the shape is very reminiscent of it. It does look more like a concept than a production model teaser, however. We’re just trying to make out if that’s a roof box on top, and we’re also wondering if the illuminated badge in front could be a sign that it might be an electrified model.
All guesses are pretty valid at this point.
Since the Delica was first introduced around 16 years ago, it’s had its share of popularity. It may not have been offered locally, and what units we see here in the PH may be converted, but we’d like to think that given proper marketing, and an attractive price point, it could make for a significant model in the country. The van segment is something that Mitsubishi is missing out on here, and this may become a very strong contender. That is if it’s even going to be brought in in the first place.
The Japan Mobility Show 2023 is set to open its doors on October 25, and until then, we can all just gawk, and fiddle around with photo and brightness and saturation settings to try and get a clearer photo of what vehicle Mitsubishi is teasing us with. If it is the Delica – which we honestly are strongly leaning on – then that’s going to be pretty exciting for everyone.
Even more exciting so if Mitsubishi Motors Philippines picks up on it and posts a teaser of its own; a Delica in left-hand drive configuration, perhaps?
