Isuzu D-MAX and MU-X launched with new engine and transmission

Isuzu Motors Limited has released its updated D-MAX 1-ton pickup truck and MU-X seven-seater passenger vehicle in Thailand. Both models feature the newly developed RZ4F 2.2L diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and sales will begin on November 28, with other countries following suit.

The new RZ4F engine delivers 161 hpr and 400 Nm of torque, focusing on durability, lower noise levels, and enhanced fuel efficiency. Paired with the eight-speed automatic transmission, the engine improves start-up capability, acceleration, and fuel economy compared to its predecessors.

Key transmission upgrades include a wider gear range, optimized torque, high-performance lockup dampers, and gear shift mapping designed for the RZ4F engine. These refinements contribute to better performance across various driving conditions.

During the launch event at Chang International Circuit in Buriram Province, Isuzu President and COO Shinsuke Minami highlighted Thailand as the company’s key market.

“Isuzu has achieved significant market share in Thailand with the support of loyal customers,” Minami said. “The new D-MAX and MU-X, equipped with a new engine and transmission, offer better driving performance and efficiency. We remain committed to developing products that align with customer needs while contributing to a carbon-neutral society.”

Isuzu’s mid-term business strategy, “ISUZU Transformation – Growth to 2030,” emphasizes a multi-pathway approach to power source technologies. Alongside internal combustion engines like the RZ4F, the company is advancing battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).

The D-MAX and MU-X are globally recognized for their robust design, off-road capabilities, and efficiency, and these new updates aim to meet evolving customer demands in Thailand and beyond. Even in the Philippines, the Isuzu D-MAX and MU-X have proven their toughness and reliability.
