The Silang-Aguinaldo segment of CALAX is making very good progress and as it stands, it looks like it will be opened to the public by September this year. Those who frequent the South particularly to go to Tagaytay can take this as good news because once it’s operational, it will only take about 20 minutes to get to Tagaytay from the new interchange.

According to Construction Manager Wilson Bontiago, the Silang-Aguinaldo Interchange stands at 91% complete as of August 1. More work will be done but is anticipated to push to a full 100% completion by month’s end. That said, Metro Pacific Tollways (MPT) South is targeting a mid-September opening, according to MPT South’s Arlette Capistrano.

The current focus now is on the construction of toll facilities, the installation of road lights, signages, as well as sound barriers. The setting up of the toll collection facility will be done within the remaining weeks of August as well. Once the segment has been opened, it is estimated to be able to service up to 5,000 motorists daily. The Interchange will run about 16 kilometers between Aguinaldo Highway and Tagaytay City, and travel time will only be 20 minutes.

The entire Cavite-Laguna Expressway is looking to build another 45 kilometers of roadways by 2024 and the plans will cover interchanges at Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road, Silang East, Silang (Aguinaldo), Governor’s Drive, Open Canal, and Kawit. Ultimately, CALAX will be connected to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) in Kawit.
We all know how traffic builds up to and from Tagaytay, and for us who just love braving those jams for a road trip, good food, and awesome views, an additional road to take that shortens travel time to and from is always good news. So, who’s looking forward to this new Interchange opening?
