A few weeks ago we reported that production on the all-new 2023 Suzuki Jimny 5-door was about to begin in India. In that report, we noted how India will first begin production for the local market starting sometime in April of this year.
The automaker is targeting to produce around 100,000 units per year wherein 66 % of that target will be allocated to the local market of India. The remaining percentage is slated to be shared for export to other countries and the Philippines will most likely have a share of that pie.
There is a new development though, and it may boost our chances of getting the 5-door Jimny sooner rather than later.
Australia softly confirms the incoming 5-door Suzuki Jimny
The automaker’s Australia branch has seemingly confirmed the arrival of the 5-door Jimny by adding it to the ‘future vehicles’ segment of their website. Apart from that details are scarce, but the Australian representatives of the brand will make an announcement regarding the exact launch date soon.
Why is this significant for us? Well first things first, Australia is a regional neighbor (in fact it’s much further away from India than we are) which means our time with the 5-door Suzuki Jimny looms. Furthermore, the 3-door version sold locally is actually sourced from the India plant as well, and we all know for a fact that the Jimny nameplate is one of the most famous and successful vehicles sold locally today which would give incentive for the SPH team to expedite its local release.
Only time will tell now when exactly that will be, but given the latest development from the land down under things are looking up for Jimny fans in the Philippines.
