The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) just announced today that they’re postponing the provincial bus ban on EDSA to August 1. The ban was originally set to be implemented on July 15.
According to MMDA general manager, Jose Arturo Garcia, northbound and southbound provincial buses are banned from traversing EDSA along the Pasay City to Cubao stretch from 7 am to 10 am and from 6 pm to 9 pm during weekdays.
“We changed the date of implementation to August 1. The changes were agreed during an emergency meeting with provincial bus operators and other stakeholders recently” – Jose Arturo Garcia, MMDA General Manager
A dry run for the new policy will take place during President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 24. As an incentive for the ban, provincial buses entering EDSA will be exempted from the number coding scheme.
“Provincial buses plying C5 Road, streets of Manila, and elsewhere are not covered by the number coding exemption” – Jose Arturo Garcia, MMDA General Manager
The MMDA is also advising provincial buses coming from the south that have no terminals in Pasay City to instead head to the MMDA-operated Southwest Interim Provincial Terminal (SWIPT).
