Gran Turismo is getting a movie adaptation, to premiere sometime in 2023

One of the best and most storied video game franchises has to be Gran Turismo. The racing simulator first debuted sometime in the 90s and has transcended the genre, and is responsible for creating generation after generation of car fans all over the world.

The game is currently on its 7th installment and has ridden its continuous success all the way to the silver screen… What?! Yeah, you heard me, Gran Turismo is getting a movie.

Gran Turismo on the big screen

According to initial reports, the movie will be based on a true story. It is said to be the story of a teenage dream come true, where a Gran Turismo player uses his skills to win a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.

That ‘series’ sounds very much like the real-life GT Academy that Nissan does in partnership with Gran Turismo, where “home racers” battle it out online to get a chance to be trained and eventually become real-life racers.

PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, as well as Doug Belgrad and Dana Brunetti, are producing. Game creators Kazunori Yamauchi and Hall are executive producing.

The movie will be directed by Neill Blomkamp, whose claim to fame movies are District 9 and Elysium. While the scriptwriters are a heavy-hitting duo, Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard).

As of now, only one cast member has been named, David Harbour is taking on an unspecified role. David Harbour is best known for his role in the hit TV series Stranger Things.

Right now, details about the movie are pretty sparse but it is reported to come out sometime in 2023. Rest assured, any fan of the legendary game or cars in general, can’t wait for it to come out.
