Mazda Motor Corporation has developed a new exterior color called Zinc Green Metallic, which will debut on the Mazda MX-5 soft-top and MX-5 RF retractable hardtop.

The color draws inspiration from zinc chromate primer, an undercoat material commonly used in industrial applications to improve durability. Mazda describes the design intent as translating that industrial utility into a visual quality — one that shifts between a solid, weighty appearance in low light and a metallic sheen that highlights the car’s body lines in brighter conditions. The formulation uses bluish metallic flakes with controlled particle size and alignment to produce a cool, refined tone.

Mazda has offered around 80 shades of green across its vehicle history, with green variants appearing across multiple MX-5 generations. However, this marks the first time a green will be available on the fourth-generation MX-5.
Zinc Green Metallic is positioned as a color that works across both natural and urban environments, and is said to change in character depending on lighting and time of day.
Mazda paint colors and quality generally never disappoint, so we are genuinely excited to see this in the metal.
