If you truly want to enroll in the newly opened MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy, here’s how

After a very (very) long wait, the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy (MRA) has finally been opened to the public. The main question in the minds of the motoring public is how to enroll, though, and that’s what we’ll be lining up for all of you, our dear readers, in this article. First of all, you must be at least 17 years old; if you or anyone you know who’s interested meets the age requirement, then read on.

Contrary to the first step indicated above, we’d like to advise would-be enrollees to the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy to first check if they have all the necessary documents in hand. These documents are the following:

  • Photocopy of Driver’s License or Student’s Permit
  • Parent’s Consent if the applicant is 17 years old
  • Barangay Clearance
  • Certificate of Employment if applicant is employed
  • Medical Certificate/Health Declaration
  • Waiver (to be filled out by the applicant himself/herself in the Academy)

We say that this step should come first because some might take time to acquire, particularly the Employment and Health Certificates. Also, the Student’s Permit is not necessarily a requirement and should be presented only if the applicant already has one. If all these are in hand and in order, please follow this link 90 to the online registration page of the Riding Academy 169.

After successfully registering online and receiving an acknowledgment via email, the applicant can proceed to the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy to submit and have the documents checked, validated, and recorded. The acknowledgment email will contain/indicate the dates for the applicant’s two-day training period and submission of the documents must be done beforehand. Every batch can accommodate up to 100 participants.

During the training days, enrollees must bring their own protective gear such as a helmet, jacket, pants, closed shoes/boots, gloves, and elbow and knee pads/guards.

The MMDA MRA’s curriculum 10 will cover the following lessons:

Day 1

  • 2 hours Basic Road Emergency Response
  • 2 hours Road Traffic Rules and Regulations
  • 4 hours Motorcycle Orientation on basic parts, control and operation of motorcycles, and demonstration of static and moving position

Day 2

  • 8 hours Motorcycle Skills Practice and Demonstration

To complete the MMDA MRA training course, the applicant/enrolee will have to undergo a skills evaluation and assessment, and should he or she satisfactorily meet them, a Certificate of Completion will be given to him or her. There are plans to recognize this Certificate when applying for an LTO Driver’s License, but no such confirmation has been given on its status as of yet. The same Certificate is also suggested to be a criterion for riders being “prioritized” for jobs with ride-hailing companies.

MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes said he believes that the MRA will address motorcycle riders, whom he believes to have a lack of traffic education and change their mindset whenever they are on the road.

“Hindi ako naniniwala na ang ibang motorcycle riders ay likas na walang disiplina, bagkus kulang lamang sila sa kaalaman at edukasyon sa tamang paggamit ng daan, traffic rules and regulations, [I don’t believe that some riders have no discipline, they just lack knowledge and education on roads, traffic rules and regulations] and proper driving skills,” Artes said.

“‘Yan po ang hangad natin sa pagtatayo ng MC Riding Academy – bigyan ng edukasyon ang mga motorcycle riders at baguhin ang kanilang isipan [That is our hope in putting up the MC Riding Academy – to educate motorcycle riders and change their mindsets],” he also added.

We’re with you, Atty. Artes, and we wish for nothing but the success of the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy. If this is one step that the powers that be will take to rid us of the road “kamote”, then we’re all for it!

And oh, thank you for making a free training course for everyone’s knowledge, education, and safety!
