The legendary sports car maker Lotus has gone through some big changes recently, in the recent past the brand has stated its intent to become an electric vehicle maker in the near future. With EVs on their mind, the brand wanted to do one final send-off to the ICE and that’s where the Emira comes in.
Lotus Manila to launch Emira before the year ends
The Emira is the brand’s newest model, and it’s also believed to be the British carmaker’s swan song and love letter to the Internal combustion engine (ICE) before it becomes an EV. There are 2 engine options for the Emira, the first is a 3.5-liter supercharged V6 courtesy of Toyota while the other engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged mill supplied by technical partner Mercedes-AMG.
In V6 trim the Emira makes 400 hp and 430 Nm of torque while the 4-cylinder makes 360 hp and 430 Nm of torque as well. The 4-cylinder is available with an 8-speed Mercedes-AMG dual-clutch, while the V6 can be had with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Lotus said that they specifically tuned the 2.0-liter suspension to deliver the textbook body control and handling dynamics that the brand is known for without it feeling harsh. The vehicle is equipped with Eibach springs and Bilstein high-pressure monotube dampers that are tuned specifically for this model.
It was previously announced that the Emira was set to make its local debut at the end of 2022, however, supply shortages had taken over which has delayed the launch. Instead, the brand is saying that the Emira V6 will first make its way here by Q3 of 2023, with the 2.0-liter set to launch by January 2024.
