Just because you’re in a CR-V, doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun, right? Engineers over at Honda seem to think the same way, and they’ve gone and worked on what you see here: a hybrid racer project that’s not a Type R, but a crossover. And boy this going to be a beast.

Unfortunately, Honda has been mum on the project’s details. Apart from the photos you see here, and the video that they’ve put up, everything is still a mystery.
But look at it. The photo on the left-hand side shows off some carbon goodies, but if you look to the right, you’ll see that this CR-V is on a total CF diet. Carbon everything, yo! No such thing as overkill when it comes to racing, and they want this thing to go fast.

If anything, the kit including the lip and rear spoiler are there for a reason, and that’s to keep this racecar planted on the tarmac. Honda plans to go full-on racing with this car, and good aero is going to be essential for them to make blistering lap times with this CR-V.

All but its shell remains, and that’s been cut out to make for easier mechanic work for what’s underneath. The entire interior has been gutted and the cabin stripped, and all we see now is an F1-inspired steering wheel that comes with all the controls that the driver needs to keep this racecar project under reins.

A brainchild of the engineers at Honda Performance Development (HPD) and Auto Development Center (ADC), and designers from North America Auto Design Division of American Honda, the CR-V Hybrid Racer project is set to pump out a staggering figure of 800 electrified HP. Honda‘s a firm believer in being carbon-zero, and tech such as this shows that going green does not equate to not being mean.
The CR-V Hybrid Racer is set to be unveiled a week from now, on February 28, so mark your calendars to see what this hybrid can really do. Color us excited, and we’re not even ashamed.
