Agreement reached by RSA, MVP for new 96-kilometer expressway connecting Cavite and Batangas

A partnership between two industry giants may give rise to yet another new expressway. Ramon S. Ang and Manuel “Manny” V. Pangilinan have reached an agreement to build a 96-kilometer tollway that will connect the provinces of Cavite and Batangas. The Ang-led San Miguel Corporation and the MVP-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp. have confirmed as much in separate statements.

The partnership between RSA and MVP will see the construction of a 96-kilometer-long tollway project. One side will stretch and link Cavite to Batangas, while the other side will connect Batangas to the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX). Townships that will be covered include Alfonso, Amadeo, Mendez, Silang, Tagaytay (all in Cavite), and Nasugbu (in Batangas).

The statement from SMC stated, “We confirm that San Miguel Corp and Metro Pacific Tollways Corp have agreed to jointly develop a new project for the construction and operation of a tollway project that will link the provinces of Cavite and Batangas and effectively merge the respective road projects of both Corporations”.

An “agreement in principle… to jointly pursue the tollway project that will connect Cavite and Batangas” was stated by MPIC, further saying that “The management teams of both groups are currently discussing the terms and conditions of the definitive agreement implementing the same.”

It seems that expressway projects have become a major focus of the government, and with this partnership between two private and dare we say “mega” companies, we’re likely bound to see more, beyond this new expressway 16 in the south. If it helps motorists and boosts the economy, then of course we’re all for it.
