Mitsubishi Triton gets perfect 5-star ANCAP safety rating

The Mitsubishi Triton is still pretty fresh from its debut. As with any vehicle, safety is a primary concern for everyone. In December last year, Mitsubishi’s new pickup truck got a 5-star rating from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program or NCAP. Yes, it’s that good as far as ASEAN standards go. But how did it fare with the more stringent criteria of the Australasian NCAP (ANCAP)? Surprise (or not)! Here’s another 5-star rating!

There’s no doubting the safety of the Mitsubishi Triton

The Mitsubishi Triton was put through its ANCAP paces and despite being a lot more difficult to ace, it did just that. Safety was measured by way of both active and passive systems, with the former involving driver and passenger protection following a crash from all sides, and the latter involving assistive safety systems.

So, let’s get to it.

First, safety for those in front. The Triton got high marks for driver’s side safety in the event of a collision. Those seated on the passenger side will be very glad to know that their safety got a perfect score. Passengers in the back are more at risk for some injuries to the chest, though, but in contrast, the Triton still had a near-perfect score when it came to protecting children.

What’s more impressive is the finding that the Triton’s airbags were, indeed, very effective in protecting passengers. Specifically, these prevented occupants’ heads from coming into contact with each other in the event of a crash.

As for the driver-assist(ive) technologies that are available, they were not perfect, but performed effectively nonetheless. Some points for improvement were noted for the emergency autonomous braking system particularly when backing up, but overall, they were collectively deemed safe. The safety of those on the outside was established as well, and being around a Triton as a pedestrian, biker, or cyclist is something you should worry about. That’s saying it very loosely, of course, but again, this Mitsubishi pickup has what it takes to “look out” for you.

Despite the fact that the ANCAP is one of if not the most difficult NCAP ratings to ace, the Mitsubishi Triton did very well, indeed.

For those who are looking at safety as a primary factor for purchasing a pickup truck, then this is a no-brainer. Now all that’s left is a proper test drive and Review so we can tell you what we think about its performance. But, of course, that’s going to be another story.

For those who already have a Triton, rest easy and enjoy it! For those in the market for one, it’s a pretty good choice as far as safety goes, and that’s for sure.
