The Honda Brio is now in its 2nd generation. After entering the PH market sometime in 2019, it hasn’t had so much as a nip and tuck. It finally does this year, though, as the minor model change (MMC) has just been unveiled in Indonesia. Don’t expect any of the underpinnings or engine to be different, the changes are purely aesthetic, but we must say that it makes the pint-sized hatchback look a lot better.
What’s new with the 2023 Honda Brio minor model change?
Three variants of the Brio were introduced, which are the regular “Satya” and the higher-end RS.
Starting with the front end, the former gets a honeycomb grill and the latter gets a sportier, 3D geometric patterned grill. Both pieces are much bigger than the previous models and make the Brio look a lot sportier. Seeing as they take up more space, the front bumper gets a bit of a redesign as well. Previously it was more round-edged, but the MMC now has sharper angles at the front. Further differentiating the base and RS apart are the blacked-out accent pieces. The Satya sticks it out with the bling and chrome.
On the side, the wheel designs are also different between the two variants. The base model sports two-tone 14″ alloys whereas the RS gets different and blacked-out multi-spoke patterned wheels. As for the rear, the bumpers have also been reshaped and compared to the base, the RS has smoked taillight units.
Inside, more changes set both variants apart. For the base Brio, the upholstery and dashboard accents have been updated, and it now gets a nifty one-touch up-down power window switch for the driver’s side. As for the RS, you get accent color stitching on the upholstery, adjustable front headrests, an updated gauge cluster, and connectivity options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As we mentioned, there are 2 variants of the facelifted Brio. The Satya will be available in either a manual or CVT, and the RS only with a manual. Both are still powered by the same 1.2-liter i-VTEC motor that makes 89 HP and 100 Nm of torque.
The Honda Brio may not be the best-selling model in the Philippines, but we have to admit that there are a lot of them on the road. It’s about time that it’s been given an update, and we’re pretty sure it will be welcomed with open arms in the country as much as the pre-facelift model. Well, that’s if it’s positioned, and more importantly, priced correctly and competitively.
