The No Plate No Travel Policy for tricycles in Quezon City has just begun implementation and enforcement. As we have previously reported, July 1 will see traffic law enforcers crack down on trikes that have no installed (or worse, no issued) license plates from transporting commuters. 23 have been apprehended so far.
No Plate No Travel Policy for tricycles strictly enforced in Quezon City
The implementation of the No Plate No Travel Policy follows the issuance of Republic Act No. 4136, specifically under Section 18 which covers the “Use of Number Plates”. As indicated, “All tricycles must display valid and authorized license plates at all times…” and that “The license plate must be clearly visible and properly attached to the vehicle”.
The No Plate No Travel Policy’s enforcement aims to ensure safety and order on the roads with the help of the local government of Quezon City.
At the end of the first day of the No Travel No Policy’s implementation, at least 23 tricycles have been apprehended. In the first hours of the implementation, a total of 16 drivers were apprehended for using unregistered tricycles. Five more tricycles were apprehended for operating the motor vehicle with no license plate, along with two others for driving without a driver’s license.
“Any tricycle found operating without a valid license plate shall be apprehended, while appropriate legal actions and penalties in accordance with existing laws and regulations shall be imposed,” the memorandum between the LTO and various Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA) states.
“This is also in line with the instruction of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista to ensure the safety of all road users, especially the commuters who depend on tricycles as a mode of transport on their way to and from their offices and schools,” said LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II.
“Tuloy-tuloy na ang implementation nito sa buong Quezon City and in soon, this will be replicated nationwide,” he added.
