The 2024 Mazda CX-90 has finally been unveiled in North America. The brand’s newest flagship 3-row large crossover truly is a sight to behold, and it could be a worthy successor to the CX-9 in the Philippine market. What makes us say so? Read on and let’s have a look at what it’s bringing to the table.
2024 Mazda CX-90: Wider, longer, more aggressive proportions

The design of the CX-90 is very reminiscent of its smaller sibling, the CX-60. Given the difference in size and proportion, though, the 90 gives off a stronger and more luxurious presence. The familiar shape of the grill borders is finished in chrome and is neatly incorporated into the LED-lit headlight and DRL units. A chrome strip runs wide on the front chin that adds another touch of class to the overall look.

It’s when you look at it from the side that you see and appreciate the sheer size of this new model. The CX-90 is just massive. If you’d remember the lone teaser photo that Mazda came out with last November, you’ll see that it’s the badge seen on the production model’s fender. The chrome accent pieces continue to the side skirts as well as on the rear skirts. Window trims are also finished in chrome. As for the wheels, the CX-90 sits on new two-tone 21-inch diamond cut alloys with a black metallic finish.
Worth noting is that the color you see here is Mazda’s latest Takuminuri color, Artisan Red. Developed specifically for the CX-90, it gives a “sophisticated yet deeply saturated color to the vehicle’s blend of performance and refinement”.

Inside, you’re treated to a sleek, modern, and very classy cabin. Nappa leather is the upholstery of choice, and along with wood and tone-on-tone fabric, emphasizes the luxury and comfort that the CX-90 provides. A bit of a novelty, but no less impressive is the distinctive fabric on the dash connected using hanging stitches, which is specifically inspired by hand-bookbinding and an intricate Japanese weaving technique known as Kumihimo.
Having 3 rows, space for passengers and cargo comes aplenty, and hauling it all won’t be a problem for the CX-90 at all.

Powering the Mazda CX-90 is a choice between a 3.3-liter e-Skyactiv G turbo-gasoline mild hybrid engine or a smaller 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv PHEV powertrain. The former, which Mazda claims has the most power and torque of any engine they’ve ever developed is good for 340 HP and 500 Nm of pull. The latter, on the other hand, puts out 323 HP and the same amount of torque. The PHEV also comes with a 17.8 kWh high-capacity battery. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
North America will get its hands on the CX-90 within the next few months. The question then remains if Mazda PH will indeed bring this in as the CX-9’s successor. A lot of excitement surrounded its first release, which will probably be just as much should the CX-90 make its way to our shores.
