The upcoming version of Honda’s legendary performance model just beat its own record at the famed Suzuka race track.
The 2023 Honda Civic Type-R lapped the 5.8-kilometer track in 2:23.120 seconds. That is nearly a second (0.873 seconds) faster than the outgoing 2021 Civic Type-R Limited Edition’s lap. The time set by the 2023 Civic Type-R also marks a new lap record for front-wheel-drive production cars at Suzuka.
What makes the lap time feat even more amazing is the fact that the 2023 model beat a time set by the heavily stripped out and track-focused 2021 Civic Type-R Limited Edition.
Furthermore, after taking a closer look at the video, Honda opted to “blackout” and camouflage both the instrument cluster and infotainment system. This tells us that Honda is still very keen on keeping some information a secret, could the Type-R be boasting some game-changing performance-enhancing goodies? We’ll have to wait and see till the official launch.
For now, enjoy the glory of this great lap.
